Runner Dies During Corporate Challenge Road Race

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A runner participating in a downtown road race Thursday evening collapsed and died on the course.

The 39-year-old male died in the 0-100 block of North Columbus Drive, according to Chicago police.

"We are aware of the fatality of a race participant and express our sincere condolences to their family, friends and coworkers," said Chase spokeswoman Christine Holevas.

The race, which attracts thousands of runners each year, started at 7 p.m. and the runner collapsed around 7:30 p.m. and had suffered cardiac arrest, officials said.
