"Rookie Of The Year" Actor In Chicago To Cheer On Cubs

(CBS) -- The star of the 1993 movie "Rookie of the Year," in which the Cubs won the World Series, is at Wrigley Field for Game 4 of the NLCS. CBS 2's Dana Kozlov spoke with actor Thomas Ian Nicholas.

He was a 12-year-old pitching phenom for the Cubs, who helped the team best the Mets to win the division. A movie? Yes. But Wednesday, "Rookie of the Year" actor Nicholas hopes reality mirrors art.

"I'm just here to bring a little luck," he said.

Nicholas played Henry Rowengartner in the film when he stepped on the mound and struck out then Mets power hitter Bobby Bonilla. That would be like striking out Mets slugger Dan Murphy now.

"My joke is that I'm the last time the Cubs won the World Series in '93," Nicholas said.

He'll be in a seat, not on the mound, at Wrigley for Game 4.

"I'm not throwing out the first pitch or singing the seventh inning stretch, but I am going to wear a 'Rowengartner' Cubs jersey, which I haven't done since we shot the movie," Nicholas said. "I'm hoping that it's like my rally cap."
