Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Train In Midlothian

(CBS) -- A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Rock Island District Metra train Monday evening in southwest suburban Midlothian, authorities said.

Inbound train 424 struck a female pedestrian about 5:45 p.m. at the 147th Street grade crossing, just south of the Midlothian station, according to Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile.

The pedestrian, whose age was unknown, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died, Reile said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately confirm the fatality.

All inbound and outbound trains were briefly halted, but were running with delays by about 8:30 p.m., according to Metra. Full information on train delays can be found on metrarail.com.
