Robbins Street Dedicated To Deceased Football Player Rocky Clark
ROBBINS, Ill. (CBS) -- A street was dedicated today in Robbins to Rocky Clark, a high school football player who was paralyzed in 2000 and who never gave up living becoming a coach and mentor and going back to school despite his disability, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.
The street sign reading Honorary Rasul "Rocky" Clark Drive was unveiled at the corner of Hendricks and Lydia in front of his mother's home, Annette Clark.
"It means a whole lot to me that Rocky's legacy is living on and this is a blessed day," she said. "It's a wonderful thing and I really love it."
Denice King was so moved by Rocky's story she raised money for the family when his insurance ran out. She says "Rocky" would have "loved" seeing his name on the street sign.
"I think he's smiling with all his teeth showing," King said.
Rocky Clark's struggles inspired Rocky's Law, expanding insurance coverage for student athletes who suffer catastrophic injuries. Those at the ceremony spoke of a young man who was an inspiration.
Rocky passed away in 2012.
