Robbins Police Officer Fatally Shoots Man In West Pullman

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An off-duty Robbins police officer shot and killed a man in the West Pullman neighborhood after an apparent robbery attempt early Friday.

Chicago police said an off duty-police officer from the town of Robbins shot and killed a man after an attempted armed robbery on the corner of 123rd and Wallace shortly before 7 a.m.

Witnesses on the scene said the off-duty officer was driving a black sedan. That vehicle's front passenger window was shattered.

The officer was not injured.

Those who knew the man who was killed watched from a distance as Chicago police investigated. They were too distraught to talk on camera. All they would share was that the victim lived in the area, and that he was 20 years old.

Further details about the shooting were not immediately available.
