Robbery Victim May Have Been Lured Through Online Dating Site: Elgin Police

(CBS) -- Elgin police are on the lookout for a group accused of attacking a man.

Authorities fear they had a plan and the victim fell right into their trap.

CBS 2's Jeremy Ross reports.

Police say they're looking for at least two men that are part of a robbery.

Elgin Police Cmdr. Dan O'Shea  says a 37-year-old man was likely lured to a parking lot though an online dating service or site and then robbed and stabbed multiple times. He was treated at a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say this armed robbery could be connected to at least two other crimes. In these cases, too, suspects used the Internet to lure victims.

The suspects may have also tried to sell items to buyers before robbing them.
