Robbery Suspect, Teen Arrested In Search For Drugs At Elgin Home

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A search of a northwest suburban home turned up drugs and ammunition Wednesday night, leading to the arrest of a 16-year-old boy as well as an Elgin man wanted in a separate armed robbery investigation.

Officers executed the search warrant about 10 p.m. at the home in the 300 block of Washington Street after getting a tip about drugs being sold there, according to a statement from Elgin police.

They found heroin, cannabis, ammunition and "items indicative of drug sales," police said.

Also in the home was 25-year-old Deandre L. Anderson, a suspect in an armed robbery Monday on the same block, police said.

After arranging a meet-up to sell a cell phone via an "online garage sale website," Anderson and another person brandished a gun to steal the victim's cash, police said.

Anderson, of the 700 block of Grace Street, faces a felony armed robbery charge. A judge set his bond at $125,000 on Thursday, police said.

A 16-year-old boy in the home also was arrested and charged with a felony count of delivery of a controlled substance. He is awaiting a hearing at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center.

Elgin police encourage people to use their department lobby as a meeting point for sales set up on websites such as Craigslist.
