Robbers Set Up Roadblock To Target Drivers In Fuller Park

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago police have issued a warning of a new way some enterprising crooks have been using to rob their victims.

Police said the robbers used a prop in at least two holdups in the Fuller Park neighborhood. They set up a road construction barrel in the street, and when a motorist gets out of his or her car to move it aside, the robbers pounce.

Motorists have been victims of the ruse twice in the past week – on Thursday in the 300 block of West 51st Street, and on Sunday in the 400 block of West 51st Street, according to a community alert from Chicago police.

In each incident, when the motorists got out of their cars, they were beaten and robbed.

Police said anyone with information should contact Area Central detectives at 312-747-8382.
