Riverside Man Charged With Kicking Pregnant Fiancée

RIVERSIDE, Ill. (STMW) -- A west suburban Riverside man was charged with battery to an unborn child after he allegedly kicked his pregnant fiancée in the abdomen Saturday during a domestic dispute at their home.

Benjamin G. Alvarez, 39, faces two Class A misdemeanor charges of battery to an unborn child and domestic battery, according to Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel.

Officers responding to a call of a domestic dispute at 7:52 p.m. at a home in the 200 block of West Quincy Street found a 35-year-old woman with injuries to her abdomen, a swollen left eye, lacerations to her face and a swollen lip, Weitzel said.

Earlier in the evening, Alvarez had apparently gone to a party at a friend's house against his fiancée's wishes, Weitzel said. When he returned home, he found his fiancée had put his belongings outside.

A fight ensued between the couple and Alvarez shoved the woman to the ground, climbed on top of her, and shoved her face into the hard, packed ice and snow, Weitzel said. He also allegedly kicked her in the abdomen.

The woman, who is four months pregnant, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and later released after medical treatment, Weitzel said.

Alvarez was released from the Cook County Jail after posting $5,000, 10 percent of a $50,000 bond, Weitzel said.
