Ricketts Critical Of Proposed Restrictions On Wrigley Field Plaza
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The chairman of the Chicago Cubs is pushing back against some proposed city restrictions on the plaza the team hopes to operate just outside Wrigley Field along Addison Street.
Chairman Tom Rickets is accusing Ald. Tom Tunney of going back on a previous agreement on rules that would govern Wrigley Plaza, which the team wants to establish alongside the ballpark.
Tunney's latest proposal would restrict beer and wine sales to limited hours on game days and other special events.
Ricketts envisions the plaza as a sort of town square and says worries about rowdy drinking aren't realistic.
"We are the only ones in this neighborhood that provide extra security, that are responsible for cleaning up," he said. "We are the ones that take care of this area. We are not trying to make our lives harder. We are trying to make our fans' experience better."
Ald. Tunney has said he's simply acting on the concerns of his constituents.
