Rex Grossman Signed By Browns

(CBS) The Browns have signed former Bears, Redskins and Texans quarterback Rex Grossman, they announced Tuesday.

Barring multiple injuries to those higher on the depth chart, the 11-year veteran Grossman isn't expected to seriously challenge for playing time behind Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel. He does, however, know the Cleveland system well, as he previously worked under Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan when both were with the Redskins.

Grossman, 33, last played a game in 2011, when he started 13 contests for the Redskins and went 5-8. Hcompleted 57.9 percent of his passes for 3,151 yards, 16 touchdowns and 20 interceptions that season.

Grossman was originally drafted by the Bears with the 22nd pick in the 2003 draft and played six seasons in Chicago. He led the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2006 before they fell to the Colts.
