Reward Offered In Slaying Of 73-Year-Old Community Activist

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A reward has been offered for information leading to the person or people who killed a 73-year-old man in the Austin neighborhood.

Ron Allen, of Naperville, was heading back home after playing cards with friends on Dec. 2, when someone shot him as he was driving on the 1300 block of North Laramie Avenue.

Allen crashed and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Allen grew up in the Austin neighborhood and had become a community activist in the west suburbs, helping to improve relationships between citizens and police.

On Friday, fellow community activist Andrew Holmes announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. He also had a message for the killer or killers.

"The day is coming when you shall be arrested," Holmes said.

Police have said it's not clear if Holmes was targeted, or if he was hit by a stray bullet.
