Republican Lawmaker Wants Quinn To Testify On Anti-Violence Program
(CBS) -- Two outspoken Republican lawmakers say Governor Quinn is doing all he can to hide from upcoming legislative hearings on his failed neighborhood recovery initiative anti-violence program, reports WBBM's Bob Roberts.
State Representative Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) says he is ready to go wherever the investigation leads. State Senator Matt Murphy(R-Palatine) is angered by State Representative Frank Mautino (D-Spring Valley) decision not to sign off on two of the seven subpoenas the commission intends to issue.
Murphy says Governor Quinn should put the embarrassment behind him by volunteering to testify. But would the result be a circus?
"I don't know why he wouldn't want to clear up your name and clear up the record but I don't see why that has to be an inherently political process. Again, this audit went on for years," said Murphy.
The legislators ostensibly are examining a blistering report by the state auditor general, who concluded that the program was hastily implemented and had inadequate oversight.
