Reports: Giants Sign OF Denard Span To 3-Year Deal
(CBS) The Giants have sign outfielder Denard Span to a three-year deal, pending a physical, according to reports. The deal was worth $31 million, according to csnbayarea.com.
Span, 31, hit .301 with five homers, 22 RBIs and 38 runs in 61 games in an injury-plagued 2015 season with the Nationals. He underwent hip surgery with about a month left in the season.
The White Sox have remained on the hunt for another outfielder this offseason, and Span was rumored to be a second-tier option for them should they not sign one of the high-profile sluggers left in the market -- Justin Upton and Yoenis Cespedes. Span has a career .352 on-base percentage, so he's appealing in that regard.
