Reports: Blue Jays Acquire David Price From Tigers

(CBS) The best pitcher on the trade market has been moved one day ahead of Friday's non-waiver deadline.

In a surprising move, the Blue Jays acquired ace left-hander David Price from the Tigers on Thursday, according to multiple reports. Toronto will send away several prospects, including highly regarded pitcher Daniel Norris, according to Yahoo Sports. The rest of the return wasn't immediately known.

Price, 29, is 9-4 with a 2.53 ERA and 1.11 WHIP this season. He'll be a free agent this offseason and is expected to command a contract in the range of $25 million annually for at least six years.

Norris, 22, has ascended to Triple-A and entered 2015 ranked as a top-20 prospect by baseball America and MLB.com.

The Cubs and Tigers had preliminary discussions about Price, but Chicago wasn't willing to mortgage any of its future in the form of talented youngsters to acquire him.

The Blue Jays are two games back of the second AL wild-card spot.
