Artemi Panarin Agrees To 2-Year Extension With Blackhawks

(CBS) The Blackhawks have signed winger Artemi Panarin to a two-year contract extension, they announced Thursday morning. The deal keeps Panarin under contract through the 2018-'19 season and keeps him away from restricted free agency this coming offseason.

The deal was for about $12 million total, according to multiple reports. The Athletic's Scott Powers first reported the extension late Wednesday afternoon.

In his first season with the Blackhawks, the 25-year-old Panarin won the Calder Trophy as the league's best rookie after recording 77 points (30 goals, 47 assists) in 80 games. He's followed that up with another sensational start to the this season, with a team-high 37 points in 37 games. His 15 goals are tied for 10th in the NHL and his 37 points are tied for fifth-best.
