Illinois Suspends Rice, Cosby Indefinitely

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Illinois coach John Groce announced ahead of Saturday's game against Penn State that guards Rayvonte Rice and Aaron Cosby have been suspended indefinitely.

In a news release about an hour before the noon Central Time tipoff Groce said the two were suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules.

Both Rice and Cosby have been out with injuries. Rice has a broken hand and Cosby recently had eye surgery. Both were starters before their injuries and Rice is Illinois' (13-8, 3-5) leading scorer and rebounder.

Groce had said as recently as Thursday that both might be back as soon as Saturday from their injuries.

The suspensions compound what has been a rough season for the Illini. They've also played all season without starting injured point guard Tracy Abrams.
