Report: Cubs' McLeod Withdraws As Padres GM Candidate

(CBS) Cubs senior vice president of scouting and player development Jason McLeod has withdrawn his name from consideration for the Padres' vacant general manager job, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Having done a quality job in helping build up Chicago's farm system and having previously worked in the San Diego organization, McLeod was receiving serious consideration from Padres chief executive officer Mike Dee, but he decided the fit and timing wasn't right yet.

Not with what he believes are better days ahead for the Cubs.

"As I got to reflect on it, this is where I want to be right now," McLeod said, according to the Tribune. "I got so many good things going on right now. To sound corny, we put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this. I just really believe in the vision and direction. I really want to be here when we win.

"I know those jobs are coveted. There are only 30 of them. Like I said, it's something I hope to aspire to do still at some point in the future. We have a special thing going on here. And I don't mean to sound corny, but I truly believe that."
