Report: Josh McCown Is Endorsing Marc Trestman To Be Bucs' OC

(CBS) Josh McCown wants his quarterback whisperer back.

The former Chicago reserve quarterback who's now in Tampa Bay, McCown has endorsed the Bucs bringing in recently fired Bears coach Marc Trestman as the team's new offensive coordinator, the Tampa Tribune reported.

McCown had a career (one-third of a) year under Trestman in 2013, throwing for 1,829 yards, 13 touchdowns and just one interception in replacing the injured Jay Cutler. The Bears went 3-2 in McCown's starts (he played in eight games in all), and he parlayed that success into a two-year, $10-million deal with Tampa Bay in the offseason.

"In regard to (Trestman coming) here, yeah, I would keep that conversation between (Bucs coach) Lovie (Smith) and I,'' McCown said, according to the newspaper. "But I think Marc is an outstanding coach and an outstanding person and he has a great sense of offensive football, especially quarterback play.

"I just know that, for me personally, I played my best football in my career under him. So obviously I have good things to say. But I've been around a bunch of different guys over the course of my career, and he was probably the most detailed with game plans and things like that. I really felt like he was on top of it.''

McCown struggled in his first year in Tampa Bay, throwing for 2,206 yards, 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. H completed 56.3 percent of his passes.
