Report: Illinois 3rd Best State For Teen Drivers

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A new report suggests Illinois is among the best state in the nation for teenage drivers.

WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports Illinois ranked 3rd best in the United States for teen drivers, according to a report on the personal finance site WalletHub.

Only New York and Hawaii ranked better.

Among other things, WalletHub took into account the percentage of drivers who are teens, teen driver fatalities per teen drivers, the maximum value of a speeding ticket, and how tough teenage driving laws are in each state.

Illinois tied with New York for 1st in the U.S. in tough driving laws for teenagers, 9th best in safety, and 10th in economic environment – a measure of ticket fines and insurance rates.
