Report: Illini's Darius Paul Arrested For Resisting Officer, Underage Drinking

(CBS) Illinois basketball player Darius Paul was arrested early Tuesday morning for resisting a police officer and underage drinking, according to the Champaign News-Gazette.

The 20-year-old Paul evaded police after they saw he and another man acting "suspiciously" in a parking lot near a restaurant on campus, the report said. When Paul was asked to stop by police, he began running and was eventually tackled by an officer, the News-Gazette reported. He then admitted to drinking, according to the News-Gazette.

Paul was taken to a satellite jail, where he posted bond and was released, the report said. Both charges were Class A misdemeanors that carry a maximum penalty of up to 364 days in the county jail, the News-Gazette reported.

The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Paul, a forward, sat out last season for Illinois after transferring from Western Michigan after his freshman season.
