Report: Ex-Roommate Of Derrick Rose's Accuser Calls Allegations Against Him A 'Sham'

(CBS) The ex-roommate of the woman who has accused Bulls point guard Derrick Rose of sexual assault in a civil lawsuit brought forth in California has called the allegations "a sham" and an attempt to extort money, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

Rose is being sued by a woman who claims he and two of his friends drugged her and then raped her in late August 2013 in California. Rose has steadfastly denied the allegations throughout the ordeal.

Rose's lawyers are trying to obtain text messages and get the accuser to answers some questions under oath, which they believe will reveal inconsistencies and cause a judge to dismiss the case, the Tribune reported. The ex-roommate of the accuser called the allegations "unfair and inappropriate" in a court filing, the Tribune reported.

Previous court documents revealed the accuser is seeking $21.5 million in damages from Rose.

The Bulls have backed Rose amid the civil case, as general manager Gar Forman expressed support for him before the season started, shortly before Rose addressed the allegations himself.

"You all saw everything that was put out," Rose said on the Bulls' media day on Sept. 28. "I will be proven innocent, but at the same time it hasn't affected anything. It's not true. I take it as motivation. I feel like the devil is just working. I feel like I'm on the right track as far as where I want to be at in my life, and the direction I want to go. And I feel like that when you're that focused people just try and take you down, so I'm very confident that I will be proven innocent."

Rose is averaging 15.9 points and 4.8 assists per game for the 27-24 Bulls.
