Report: Cops Release Teen Questioned About Robbery Of Mayors' Son
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police reportedly have released a teenager who was being questioned in connection to last month's robbery of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's son near the family's Ravenswood home.
The Chicago Tribune reports an 18-year-old man was released Tuesday evening without charges, a day after he was taken into custody in the Uptown neighborhood.
Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada would not specifically confirm the teen had been released, and would only say "people of interest" were being questioned about the mugging, but no arrests have been made.
A few days before Christmas, police were called to the 4200 block of North Hermitage Avenue, a few houses down from the Emanuel family home, after someone robbed Zach Emanuel, the mayor's son, of his cell phone on the street.
Emanuel's 17-year-old son went out to make a phone call when he was jumped by two men who stole Zach's phone.
The mayor said Zach was talking to his college counselor on his iPhone when he was attacked from behind. The 17-year-old reportedly suffered a fat lip and chipped tooth.
Sources said Zach Emanuel's stolen iPhone was turned into police on Monday.
