Cook Co. Commissioner Jesus 'Chuy' Garcia Considers Run For Mayor

(CBS) -- Cook County Commissioner Jesus "Chuy" Garcia says he's considering a run against Rahm Emanuel in next February's mayoral election.

Garcia, a former alderman and state senator, tells CBS 2 he is "interested" in running. He is gathering nominating signatures, he says, and hoping for the necessary 12,500 needed to get on the ballot.

If he runs, Garcia would join 2nd Ward Ald. Bob Fioretti in challenging Emanuel.

Garcia has served as a Cook County Commissioner since 2010.
