Browns Sign Robert Griffin III

(CBS) The Cleveland Browns have signed former Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III, the team announced Thursday.

The second overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Griffin didn't play last season and was mostly an inactive with Washington. As a rookie, he led his team to the playoffs.

Cleveland has been in the market for a quarterback ever since cutting ties with the troubled Johnny Manziel. The Browns are also expected to be a player for either Jared Goff or Carson Wentz with the second overall pick in this draft.

Griffin, 26, was a Pro Bowl quarterback in 2012, but when Washington fired former head coach Mike Shannahan and hired Jay Gruden, Griffin's days with the team were numbered.

Now, the Browns are next to give Griffin a chance.
