Blackhawks Sign Cameron Schilling, Michael Liambas

(CBS) The Blackhawks have signed defenseman Cameron Schilling to a two-year deal and defenseman Michael Liambas to a one-year deal, they announced Thursday.

Schilling's deal has an average annual value of $575,000 and is a one-way contract for the latter season, TSN's Renaud Lavoie reported. It runs through the end of the 2016-'17 season. Liambas' deal runs through the 2015-'16 seaosn.

The 26-year-old Schilling has appeared in six NHL games combined over parts of the last three seasons. He played four games for the Capitals last season. He spent most of last season at AHL Hershey, where he recorded 18 points in 63 games.

The 26-year-old Liambas had eight points in 54 games with AHL Milwaukee last season. He's spent the past three years in the AHL.

It won't be easy for either one to find a spot on defense for the Blackhawks, who have a solid core of Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Niklas Hjalmarsson and then the likes of Trevor van Riemsdyk, Stephen Johns and David Rundblad behind them. Kyle Cumiskey will compete for a spot as well if Chicago re-signs him.
