Report: Blackhawks Place Rob Scuderi On Waivers

(CBS) The Blackhawks have placed defenseman Rob Scuderi on waivers, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie, a move that means a trip to AHL Rockford is likely on the horizon.

Scuderi could be claimed by another team, but at 37 years old with limited contributions this season, that seems unlikely. If Scuderi clears waivers and the Blackhawks send him to Rockford, they'd save around $950,000 in salary cap space, according to the Tribune.

Scuderi was acquired in a December trade with the Penguins that sent Trevor Daley to Pittsburgh. He has zero points and a minus-6 rating in 17 games for Chicago, and he hasn't played in six of the past seven games.

The Blackhawks recently recalled rookie defenseman Viktor Svedberg from Rockford, and he's played in each of the past two contests.
