Report: Bears Expecting A 'Lengthy Absence' For Injured Jay Cutler
(CBS) The Bears expect a "lengthy absence" for quarterback Jay Cutler after he suffered a thumb injury on his throwing hand in Monday night's 29-14 loss to the Eagles, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday morning.
The Bears didn't reveal details late Monday surrounding Cutler's injury, though the Sun-Times' Adam Jahns reported that he's playing through ligament damage. The question facing the Bears (0-2) is whether Cutler should undergo surgery, Rapoport reported.
"I'm concerned," Cutler acknowledged after the game.
The injury flared up earlier in the game, Cutler said. He then appeared to aggravate it when he was sacked from behind and fumbled in the third quarter. The Bears ran seven straight run plays on the following drive, not throwing the football with Cutler until fourth down, an errant pass.
Cutler stayed in the game until the following possession, which lasted just one play, an interception from Cutler that changed the game. He was then pulled, with backup Brian Hoyer replacing him.
Cutler was 12-of-17 for 157 yards and the interception.
