Rauner, Quinn Seek To Shore Up Support Among Key Voters
CHICAGO (CBS) -- With five days until the election, both Gov. Pat Quinn and Republican challenger Bruce Rauner were playing to groups they hope will be their strength at the polls.
WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports Quinn met on the South Side with a group of African-American ministers and elected officials, like U.S. Rep. Danny Davis (D-Ill.), who took a jab at those in the community who have backed Rauner.
"Anybody in our community who, for some reason or another think that voting for the other candidate is in their best interests, I think it would be the same as a turkey voting for an early Thanksgiving," Davis said.
Meantime, Rauner was downtown with his wife, Diana, and his running mate, Evelyn Sanguinetti, to rally female supporters.
Diana Rauner tried to erase any doubts among women voters.
"There's an effort to try to make social issues contested in this race, but it's quite clear; Bruce has been very, very clear that he's pro-choice, that he values the laws that are in place, and will do everything that he can to protect women's rights," she said.
