Rauner, Quinn Gear Up Ahead Of CBS 2 Debate

(CBS) -- With three weeks to Election Day and just two days until the gubernatorial debate on CBS 2, both candidates for the state's highest office are thinking about how to score points in their last face-to-face meeting.

CBS 2's Derrick Blakley reports Bruce Rauner rode his own Harley to Batavia as part of an annual bikers' toys for tots drive. Now, he's hoping Tuesday's debate on Chicago's South Side will help ride Pat Quinn out of office.

"We're going to talk about the issues, what we're going to do the change the direction for the state. We need to get a much better opportunity, so the American dream is available to every family, especially African-American families," Rauner said.

Meantime, in Skokie, Democrats rallied around the governor.

"We have one candidate who is representative of the money and one candidate and governor who is representative of the many. It's the money versus the many," said Democratic Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky said.

Quinn is also hoping the CBS 2 debate can be a difference maker.

"I've been able to get jobs for our state of Illinois," Quinn said. "Unemployment is down, employment and jobs are up."

With polls inconsistent about which candidate is ahead, every vote is important and every voter will be heavily courted.

You can watch the Quinn-Rauner debate Tuesday at six on CBS 2. The Chicago Urban League and Business Leadership Council are partnering with us to bring you this special showdown.
