Rare Albino Raccoon Found In Attic Of Lake County Home

(CBS) -- A rarity discovered in the attic of a Lake County home: an albino raccoon.

WBBM's Steve Miller reports the owner of the home first thought squirrels were in the attic.

But when wildlife control specialist Adam Ring of A-Action Pest Control got there, he could tell by the tracks and the size of the entry point that it was really raccoons up there.

"And also we got to hear the baby raccoons chirping."

And one of those baby raccoons is albino.

Ring says albino raccoons are very rare, maybe 1 in half a million births, he says.

The mother and all three of her babies were turned over yesterday to a veterinarian who is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

"To know that they've been delivered to good hands, and safe hands, it's definitely a feel-good."

The albino raccoon has a name.

"Typically my 14-year-old daughter likes to name some of the raccoons that we capture. And this one here was named Elsa, after the queen in the movie "Frozen," obviously due to being white in color and also has white hair."
