Rain Puts Damper On Memorial Day Beach-Goers
(CBS) -- Memorial Day is a day at the beach for those who just want to have some easy-going fun, but the weather hasn't been cooperating.
At North Avenue Beach, CBS 2's Susanna Song reports it was raining on and off Monday morning and beach-goers didn't know whether to stay or leave.
The park district put out chairs and umbrellas. If folks weren't relaxing at the beach, they were out for a run or walk, but then the clouds rolled in, and the rain and just like that people started leaving.
Christina Smith said she was going to wait out the rain in the car and come back.
"That is how Illinois is, if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes," Smith said.
"It's all about beach for me," said volleyball player Steve Debrauwere. "My son and I play, I've been playing 25 years, most important thing for me is wind. Temperature you can deal with, sun and heat you can deal with it, like if it's gale force winds, we need to know how bad the wind is."
There is a swim advisory at 57th and 63rd street beaches today because of elevated bacterial levels.
