Mayor Praises Progress At CPD In Year Since Laquan McDonald Video Released
CHICAGO (CBS) -- One year after the release of the video showing 17-year-old Laquan McDonald being shot to death by a Chicago Police officer, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said change is taking place -- for the better.
Emanuel said the department itself has "raised the bar," and said the people of Chicago are raising it even more.
"Look at what we have done, not just as an accounting. It's a snapshot," he said. "We're determined to go see this all the way through, because at the end of the day it's in our own self-interest."
The mayor said when "confronted with the truth," it is "best to deal with it and do what's necessary to address that truth."
Emanuel said he believes the police department is worthy of the public's support, and said the force is "on a course of change," but said it has not been a "straight line" from point "A" to point "C."
