Racers Reveal Why They Run The Chicago Marathon

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Why run the Chicago Marathon?

That's 26.2 miles of pounding the pavement with your feet. Depending of how fast you run, it could take hours. And not to mention the months of training before, and imminent soreness (for many) afterwards.

But to some of the 40,000 runners who competed today, it's not just about running another race. While some do it for the competition or to test themselves, others do it for charity.

"We not only train for these type of events, but we fundraise for Leukemia and Lymphoma. So I run in honor and memory of her grandfather," One Runner tells WBBM.

Many others run as pacers. "You're out there for someone else...helping people reach their best time ever."
