R. Kelly Due Back In Court Tuesday
CHICAGO (CBS)-- R. Kelly remains behind bars and he is just hours from facing a judge, for two new federal indictments.
He was arrested in Chicago Thursday night, on a 13-count indictment that includes sex crimes and obstruction of justice.
On Friday, a New York federal indictment accused Kelly of racketeering and sex crimes.
Kelly was due to appear in federal court in Chicago on Tuesday, for an arraignment hearing and a bond hearing.
On Monday, attorney Michael Avenatti held a news conference in Chicago, laying out his involvement in the federal and state charges against Kelly.
Avenatti, who is facing unrelated federal charges of his own, told CBS News he represents nine clients related to Kelly's case – including victims, parents, and so-called "whistleblowers."
Avenatti said the federal charges involve sex tapes he turned over to Cook County prosecutors earlier this year. He also claimed Kelly paid more than $2 million to silence a girl and her parents at the center of Kelly's 2008 child pornography trial. They didn't testify, and Kelly eventually was acquitted.
