Public Defenders Team Up Decades After Their Fathers First Worked Together

(CBS) -- This is a big week for two families of attorneys who have made their marks in the Cook County public defender's office.

Three decades ago, young attorneys Scott Slonim and Vito Colucci teamed up in the Cook County public defender's office.

Now, in a drug trial that's set to begin this week, Slonim's daughter Samantha and Colucci's son Vincent have teamed up in the public defender's office.

"It's a great deal of pride and a kind of amazement how life is full of coincidences."

Scott Slonim is 63. He started in the defender's office in 1983 and retired last year.

He stays in touch with his fellow alum of the public defender's office, Vito Colucci and he says there's a chance they'll both end up in court later this week to watch the next generation in action.
