Protests Continue Over Planned Closing Of St. Adalbert's In Pilsen

(CBS) -- More than 100 Pilsen residents on Friday said prayers before protesting plans by the Archdiocese of Chicago to close Saint Adalbert's Church.

WBBM's Bob Roberts spoke with protesters at the 17th Street church.

Preservationists call Saint Adalbert's an architectural masterpiece.  The Archdiocese calls it rundown and under-used.

An architect told supporters it can be fixed for $2.2 million, but the church officials want parishioners to stop raising money and to give back what has  been raised.

To parishioner Anjelica Corral, such talk is heresy. She says the Archdiocese is basically telling parishioners, "You mean nothing to us."
