Program Allows Daughter To Donate A Kidney, Get Match For Her Mom

(CBS) – An Illinois mother finds herself in desperate need of a kidney transplant and discovers how far her daughter will go to help.

"We found out I wasn't a match for her, so even though I wasn't a match I could still do something," says Dyamond Lindsey.

The 21-year-old couldn't give her mother Sonja one of her kidneys, she didn't quit.

She signed up for a kidney-sharing program, and after two years, Sonja got the transplant after they found a couple in Texas. The wife got Dyamond's kidney, and the husband's kidney saved Sonja.

"I'm so thankful that she did this for me," Sonja says.

Sonja had her operation July 21. Dyamond says she got the idea to sign up for a kidney sharing program after watching an episode of "Grey's Anatomy."
