Prince's Former Keyboard Player Playing Tribute Concert In St. Charles Tonight

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A former member of Prince's band is in the Chicago area for a tribute show tonight that had been scheduled months ago.

Matt "Doctor" Fink played keyboard for Prince for 13 years, and now leads the band "Purple Xperience."

The three-time Grammy winner said Friday's night's show at the Arcada Theater in St. Charles is going to be tough.

"This is a pretty sad day for everybody," Fink told WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser.

"We are going to do a real heartfelt tribute. We are going to treat it with the most respect possible and give the fans what the need to have, which is the music."

Prince was found dead at his suburban Minnesota home and recording studio on Thursday.

Asked what stands out most with his time with Prince, Fink said it was his sheer genius and prolific output of material, both released and unreleased.

"I just recall that he worked harder than anybody. Of course, in turn, we had to follow suit with him and follow him as best we could," Fink told CBS 2's Lionel Moise.

"A lot of times after rehearsal he'd get in there at 10 at night and go all night long and maybe get 4 hours of sleep and start again in the next day.

"He always did his best to keep things fun and that was the best thing about him. He really enjoyed bantering and joking with everybody."
