Postal Worker Jumps In To Halt Dog Attack

(CBS) – A U.S. postal worker was being hailed as a hero after coming to the rescue of a UPS driver during a pit bull attack Friday.

It happened around 10 a.m. on North Cicero Avenue in the Cragin neighborhood, CBS 2's Audrina Bigos reports.

Witnesses say they don't think the dog-attack victim would be alive if it weren't for the postal worker's actions.

The postal worker jumped on the dog and pulled it off the UPS driver. He held onto the dog for 15 or 20 minutes until help arrived.

The victim suffered injuries to his ear, head, forearm, hands and ankle, a UPS spokesperson said.

The worker was still in the hospital Friday night undergoing surgery.

The animal is currently undergoing a 10-day rabies observation, according to the city's animal control department. The dog was identified as a female pit bull terrier.
