Postal Service Driver Killed In Crash

CHANNAHON -- A U.S. Postal Service driver was killed when his vehicle collided with a truck Thursday afternoon near southwest suburban Channahon.

The accident occurred about 12:35 p.m. on Youngs Road, just south of Cavalea Drive in unincorporated Channahon Township, about seven miles southwest of Joliet, according to the Will County sheriff's office.

The driver was heading southbound on Youngs Road when he drove off the roadway onto the shoulder, then went back across the center line, striking a northbound Culligan water truck head-on, sheriff's spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

Daniel M. McGuire, 48, of Channahon, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Will County Coroner's office said. An autopsy is scheduld for tomorrow.

The driver of the water truck, a 32-year-old man, was not hurt, Hoffmeyer said. He was issued a minor citation for a violation not related to the crash.

The Illinois State Motor Carrier Safety Division was called to the scene to inspect the mail truck, Hoffmeyer said.
