Woman Fatally Shot Man Who Broke Into Woodlawn Home

(STMW) -- A woman fatally shot a man who broke into her home and beat her early Sunday in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.

About 5:15 a.m., the 30-year-old man broke into her home in the 400 block of East 62nd Street and began to beat her, according to Chicago Police.

The woman, 28, was able to get ahold of a handgun and shot him to death during a struggle, police said.

Police said the woman knew the man and the incident was domestic-related.

The Cook County medical examiner's office said the man was pronounced dead at the scene, but additional details were not available.

The woman has a valid FOID card and it was not immediately known whether charges would be filed as Area Central detectives conduct an ongoing homicide investigation.
