Police Warn Of Suspicious Man Approaching Kids At North Side Playgrounds

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police have warned residents in the Lakeview, Lincoln Square, and Ravenswood neighborhoods about a suspicious man who has been lurking around playgrounds and approaching children.

According to a community alert, the man showed up to school playgrounds at Ravenswood Elementary School and James McPherson Elementary School .

Police said the incidents happened on the afternoons of April 19 and May 5.

In the first incident, the man walked up to a group of kids and a parent, and claimed to be a movie star. He also claimed to have children of his own, and asked them what the school hours were before a parent walked him off the playground.

In the second incident, the man was walking around the playground, talking to children, and when approached by an adult, he said he was inspecting the equipment. He left the playground, but was seen a short time later walking around the neighborhood.

Police had only a vague description of the man, who was driving an older turquoise Oldsmobile coupe.
