Police Warn Of East Village, Near West Side, Lower West Side Robberies

(STMW) -- Three robberies were reported in the East Village, Near West Side and Lower West Side neighborhoods in recent weeks, prompting police to issue a community alert.

According to police, the robberies occurred about 11:30 p.m. on June 3 in the 1000 block of North Paulina; about 8:30 p.m. on June 4 in the 200 block of North Ashland; and about 4:15 p.m. on June 14 in the 2500 block of South Ashland.

In each case, a black man between 30 and 35 years old grabbed the victim's purse or backpack before running off, police said. He is estimated to weigh about 180 pounds.
