Police Warn Of Burglars Posing As Construction Workers On Northwest Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police are warning residents of burglars posing as construction workers in the North Park and Irving Park neighborhoods on the Northwest Side.

One suspect knocks on the victim's door and claims to be a construction worker building speed bumps behind the victim's home, according to a community alert from police. As the suspect distracts the victim, other men enter the home and take property.

The first incident happened at 2 p.m. Sunday in the 6000 block of North Ridgeway, police said. The second incident happened at 2:45 p.m. Sunday in the 4200 block of North Spaulding.

The 2-3 suspects are described as 30 to 45-year-old white or Hispanic men, standing 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7, police said. They were seen driving away in a black jeep or van.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to contact Area North detectives at (312) 744-8263.
