Police: Two Killed In Northwest Indiana Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were killed in a crash in northwest Indiana late Thursday, police said.

About 11:40 p.m. a Dodge Caliber and Ford Windstar were involved in a crash near 285 S. State Road 49 in Valparaiso, according to a statement from the Porter County sheriff's office.

The Dodge was traveling south and drove left of the center line to pass other vehicles when it collided with the northbound Windstar, police said. Both drivers were dead at the scene.

The driver of the Caliber was identified as 34-year-old Roderick Heise of Knox, Ind. Jade Schneider, 20, of Francesville, Ind. was driving the Windstar, police said.

It was not known if alcohol or drugs factored in the crash, but police believe speed played a role.
