Police Swarm Residential Area In Oak Lawn

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police surrounded a residence in Oak Lawn Monday afternoon, and some neighbors were not allowed into their homes for at least three hours, after an armed suspect barricaded himself inside.

The incident began shortly before 11 a.m. in the 4100 block of 98th Street. Police said around 2 p.m. that the situation resolved, but released few details on the situation, other than they were responding to "an armed barricaded subject" on that block.

At least one man who lives nearby told CBS 2's Lauren Victory that authorities would not allow him inside his apartment for at least three hours.

Later Monday, police said an armed man inside, who apparently had a history of mental issues, surrendered peacefully, and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
