Police: Student Brought Gun To Bremen High School

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Charges are pending against a student who brought a gun to school Wednesday in south suburban Midlothian.

A teacher found a book bag left in the back of a classroom at Bremen High School at 15203 Pulaski Rd., and searched the bag to find out who it belonged to, Midlothian Police Chief Harold Kaufman said.

While searching the bag, the teacher found a handgun, Kaufman said.

School administrators identified the owner of the bag and he admitted to having the gun, Kaufman said. The school contacted police, and charges are pending against the 18-year-old Wednesday afternoon.

Kaufman said he did not know why the student brought the gun to school.
