Police Shoot Man In West Englewood

(STMW) -- A person was shot and critically injured by Chicago Police in West Englewood on the South Side Friday evening.

The shooting happened about 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of 71st Street and Ashland, according to Independent Police Review Authority spokesman Larry Merritt.

A "young male adult" was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, according to Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Frank Velez.

CPD's News Affairs office confirmed police activity in the area but did not immediately release additional details.
