Police Shoot Male In Little Village

(STMW) -- A person was shot by Chicago Police officers Saturday morning in the West Side Little Village neighborhood.

About 6:15 a.m., officers from the Ogden Police District responded to a call about a male with a gun in the 2600 block of South Hamlin Avenue, police said in a statement. Police later found a male -- whose age was not immediately known -- at the corner of 27th Street and Avers Avenue pointing a gun at officers, the statement said.

Officers shot him and he was taken to a hospital, police said.

No police were injured in the shooting.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the incident, spokesman Larry Merritt said.

Further details -- such as the male's condition or hospital information -- were not immediately available Saturday morning.
